March 2010

Frau was my favourite here, but the blind guy had the best scene. Big musical number (Putting on the Ritz) was great, though feared strobe lights would activate Joe’s vertigo. Whew, no. (Helps he doesn’t know, so shhh.) Intermission, I got a popcorn. Yes, popcorn! This was at the Princess of Wales theatre (where we saw The Sound of Music last year, as you might [not] recall), and as you enter, you’re greeted by overwhelming popcorn smell, fantastic. It gave me a tummyache, but still.

So at intermission, I bought one and took it into the auditorium. Didn’t go to my seat, though; stood at the back by the door, where the usher would be, and proceeded to stuff my face. Meanwhile, Joe’s scrounging around in front claiming empty seats, so I had to take all my stuff with me and, well, wear my coat and hat. So there I am, standing by the door with all this stuff, chomping on popcorn, and a guy comes up to me, mistaking me for an usher, and asks where the nearest trashcan was. Which wouldn’t have been as funny if there wasn’t an actual usher standing next to me. The tux was intimidating, I suppose. Young musician from Vancouver, who ran here to escape the Olympic mess of the last 5 years. Poor kid.

There was no overwhelming desire to watch this show; I just ran into Kim last Sunday, and she said it was good (”better than the movie”) and found a link to $25 tickets. Joe called and got them; not too happy it’s on Tuesday, a school night, as am consequently a zombie today, but all around good fun. It’s also Bro’s birthday; how apropos.
